Six direct measurement roles. Source, circuit and freshness belong beside each reading. Derived values need an eligible basis.

The field guide / IN DEPTH

The work behind the interface.

Purpose, prerequisites and the evidence that belongs to the task.

A useful explanation should say what the evidence supports and what remains unknown. HVAI’s bounded AI direction is to organize observations, explain relationships in accessible language and help the technician navigate relevant information. Deterministic calculations should preserve their inputs and method. AI should not invent measurements, documents, completed tests or technician actions. This field guide introduces the measurement principles in the supplied white paper; it is not an equipment service manual.

01

Superheat

Suction-line temperature minus dew saturation temperature at the corresponding suction pressure. The pressure and temperature must represent the relevant point, with valid inputs, the correct refrigerant and an appropriate pressure-temperature basis.

02

Subcooling

Bubble saturation temperature at the corresponding liquid pressure minus liquid-line temperature. For refrigerants with glide, dew and bubble references differ. Measured subcooling remains distinct from the applicable charging target.

03

Cooling air temperature difference

Return dry-bulb temperature minus supply dry-bulb temperature. These air readings need appropriate placement and unit context. The difference alone does not establish exact airflow, delivered capacity or efficiency.

THROUGH THE TASK

Keep the context
at each step.

Open a step to inspect what needs to stay clear.

01Check the measured basis

Identify each physical source, its role and location, units, time and validity. A missing input does not become zero, and a stale pair should not create a fresh calculation.

02Check applicability

Confirm the refrigerant, operating context and relevant method. Manufacturer facts need a reason they apply to the exact equipment and configuration being inspected.

03Separate observation and interpretation

Preserve the measured record while explaining eligible relationships. A generalized deviation from a baseline is not a fault diagnosis or certification of whole-system condition.

04Name the next unknown

When the evidence is insufficient, expose the missing observation or reference. An understandable limit is more useful than a confident answer built from unsupported assumptions.

STATUS & EVIDENCE

References support principles, not product endorsement.

The primary sources below explain dew and bubble references, measurement-location context, input prerequisites and cooling air temperature difference. They support these general measurement principles; they do not establish HVAI compatibility, product validation or third-party endorsement. Equipment-specific procedures and applicable targets still need their own source.
